Chapter One.
You face that person again. After three years. The last time you left him, he was crying, begging down on his knees, asking you to stay. Now, he stand tall, unbothered.
The eyes that used to see you with a shining light, now lost their sparks. Just like the winter brought the spring away. You don’t know him anymore, but still feel the familiarness on his presence.
“You are my Liaison Officer?” he asked, his voice echoes in your ear. Your heart felt stung, this isn’t the voice he used to talk to you before. “Or… do you come for another member?”
There is no answer coming out from your mouth. He waits. No rush. Not like three years ago when he shoke your body to give him an answer. It feels strange. Weird…. Empty.
“Thea, we need to hurry.” A voice from behind your back filling the void. Pulled you back to the place you stand. Your eyes blinking few times — disconnecting the eye stare contest that unintentionally you had with him. Then you realized, he is still there. With the damn same stare.
“Where is Ranu?” You finally asked, eventhough with a trembling lips. Now you are the one who waits his answer in silence.
Not like you, he needs no time to talk back. “Green room.” And just like that, he walks away, left you in the corridor.
He didn’t left you crying, begging, or craving for an answer. But it doesn’t feel any better. It feels worse.
With a heavy heart, you follow the step that he took. Not to talk with him again, but because the person you are looking for is sharing the same room with him. And there that peson is, sitting in a black couch and watching something on his phone.
“Ranu,” you called, made the person with that name looked up and put his phone on the table. A smile decorating his gorgeous face. “Your individual photoshoot session will start in five minutes,” you continued.
He nodded — a sign of understanding. A makeup artist comes closer to him and do the things she needs to do. “Could you wait for me? I don’t know where the room is.”
“Sure.” You forced a smile, not because you don’t like his request but because you know the real reason behind his request.
When Ranu left the room, you are following him. Pass through the same corridor but with a totally different feeling. With Ranu, this corridor feels like a spring season. Your favorite season. Your fingers intertwinted with his. The fear of being caught blooms beautifully as your step getting close to the intended room.
“Dinner, after work, I’ll text you the place,” he whispered, as soft as the wind. Making sure none could eavesdrop. “Wear the dress that I bought you before.”
A nod from you painted a bigger smile on his face. But it seems like he doesn’t want to let go of your hand any soon so you intended to do it first.
“They are waiting for you,” you warned him.
“Okay.”
Ranu entered the room. You can hear the cheer as he walks closer. Ranu is known as a cheerful and fun member from ‘Dignity’ — a band consists of five members, so everyone is happy to work with him.
You are about to do your next job when you found out someone was standing few steps from you. The corridor turned back into winter. Your smile dropped.
“Since when?”
Once again, no answer coming from your mouth.
“I asked you, since when?”
You bring your eyes everywhere to avoid his stare. The tip of your shoes, your nails, the floor, or even the coffee stain on your white shirt. You look everywhere, except his eyes.
The corridor echoes when his shoes meet the floor. Warning you that he comes closer. But your body froze, unsure it is because you are too surprised or just because your body missing his presence closer to you.
Now, he is just three steps away. You can tell because you can clearly see the tip of his shoes too.
“I thought you will never love anyone aside from your family. But look at you now...” He didn't finish his words. He let the rest of his words hanging in the air.
You chocked. Makaelo brought about that issue. The unrasional reason you gave him to end your relationship. You brought your family issue to his face and used it as a shield. Now, that shield turns into a sword. The sword that pointing you.
“What is your favorite fiction's genre again? Secret lovers? Oh...That's what...”
“Kael...”
Makaelo Blues, the guy that threatened you with his presence locked his mouth at the second you called his name. You didn't looked up, but you can feel his eyes on you.
“Not here.” You tried to remind him. This is not the right place to talk about the history you shared with him. Out of every place, here is never a right choice— where Ranu and your co-workers could show up anytime.
“Not here? So, should we talk in that room?” With his chin, Makaelo pointing the room behind your back— where Ranu doing his photoshoot.
A disdainful laugh escaped his lips. Kill the remaining courage left in your body. Like an open book, Makaelo could read you easily. He knows what you mean even when you never completely explain.
“An unwork relationship is one thing, but being left without a clear explanation is another, Zudith.” Makaelo didn't raise his voice but every words that came up from his mouth sounds like a warning for you. Especially with your middle name added to the last of his words. “I know your family issue was never and never will be a problem to our relatonship. So I still craving for the real reason you owe me, just like three years ago.”
“El...”
It is not you who calling him. But someone who just showed up from the Green Room. A guy that you know as Zach Eddy, Dignity's drummer.
“Artha needs you.” He explained.
By that time, you finally looked up. Makaelo took a few steps back before finally turning around. Together with Zach, he entered the Green Room. After he left, you felt all your bones soften. You fell down and sat in the empty corridor.
The memories from three years ago rolling in your mind like a blurr movie. You vaguely remember how bad the situation was. But theres is one exact thing you can clearly remember— how hard you blame yourself for hurting Makaelo that bad.
